WRAP FILM OR PAINTING: WHAT TO CHOOSE FOR CHANGING A CAR'S COLOR?

We receive this question during almost every consultation. Many clients are convinced beforehand that painting is a more reliable and better option. However, the reality is somewhat more complex, and in most cases, the advantages are clearly on the side of vinyl wrapping. Below is a detailed comparison. Before we move on to the comparison table, it is important to understand one fundamental point: painting is an irreversible procedure. During the process, the original factory coating is sanded and primed, after which a new layer of paint is applied. Restoring the factory look after such an intervention is no longer possible. Original paintwork holds significant value for car resale, as well as for insurance and technical evaluation purposes. On the other hand, changing the color with film allows you to preserve this value 100%.

The only scenario where painting makes sense is when there is mechanical body damage that requires repair, as a repaired panel will have to be painted anyway. However, even in this situation, instead of completely repainting the remaining panels, you can apply a wrap, which is a much faster and more cost-effective solution. There is another important aspect that is rarely mentioned — the quality of the paint job itself. To achieve a decent result, a professional workshop with a dust-free booth, a skilled technician, and expensive materials are required. Cheap painting services (under 10,000 PLN for an entire car) almost always lead to visual defects: color shade discrepancies, "orange peel" texture, drips, and dust under the clear coat. The resulting finish usually looks worse than factory paint, and fixing it is extremely difficult since the damage is irreversible. In contrast, premium-class films are manufactured under controlled factory conditions, guaranteeing ideal uniformity of color and texture across the entire surface. Using film eliminates the risk of uneven shades between panels, as well as dust or streaks. Film provides a predictable, consistent result at a lower price, which is why premium segment vehicle owners increasingly prefer wrapping over painting.

TYPES OF CAR WRAP FILMS

Provides a deep mirror shine that is virtually indistinguishable from factory paintwork. It is a classic solution that perfectly maintains the elegant appearance of the car, making it look like a showroom display vehicle. Gloss film is available in hundreds of shades and beautifully highlights the prestige of sedans and coupes.
Creates a rich matte finish without any glare, famous for programs like BMW Individual Frozen or Mercedes-Benz designo Magno. This style gives the car an aggressive edge while emphasizing clear body lines. A matte surface does not require wax polishing, though it demands special care.
Delivers a refined "silky" sheen that serves as the "sweet spot" between matte and gloss finishes. One of the most relevant solutions in recent years, it looks elegant in daylight and gains extra depth at dusk. It is an ideal compromise for those seeking a unique style without radical matting.
Features special metallic microparticles in its structure that create subtle shimmers when struck by light, adding volume and depth to the color. Available in both gloss and matte finishes, it is the choice for classic lovers who desire more expressiveness than a standard solid color offers.
The most eye-catching type of coating, featuring a color that dynamically shifts depending on the viewing angle and lighting conditions — from purple or green to gold and copper tones. Although more expensive than standard films, it guarantees an unmatched visual impact and turns heads.
Films with a pronounced three-dimensional texture that imitate carbon fiber (3D/5D carbon), brushed metal, or even leather. Most commonly used for styling side mirrors, spoilers, moldings, and interior trim elements. They can also be applied to the entire bodywork, though they look most striking as contrasting accents.

HOW WE WORK

We follow a strict installation methodology so that the film looks neat, lasts a long time, and reliably protects the bodywork.

1

Consultation and Color Selection

We conduct a face-to-face meeting where we test film samples directly against your car and create a visualization of the future result. Over a cup of coffee, we discuss all available options and together choose the perfect color and coating type. This is the most crucial stage, as your long-term satisfaction for years to come depends on it.

2

Component Disassembly

We remove door handles, seals, headlights, moldings, and other body components. This allows the film to wrap deeply around all edges rather than ending abruptly on a visible seam line. All work is performed strictly according to the car manufacturer’s technical guidelines.

3

Surface Preparation

The process includes thorough washing, clay bar decontamination, and degreasing with isopropyl alcohol. Every micron of paint must be impeccably clean; otherwise, the film will not adhere evenly, and unwanted air bubbles may form.

4

Film Application

We use specialized knifeless tape (eliminating the risk of damaging the underlying paintwork). The film is neatly tucked under weatherstripping and panel edges. Application is performed section-by-section under strictly controlled temperature conditions.

5

Reassembly and Quality Control

We reinstall all disassembled components. Next, a multi-level inspection is conducted under various lighting angles, followed by photo documentation of the final result and providing detailed care instructions for your car.

The process takes between 5 to 10 working days, as every single step is critical to the film's durability, which is meant to last 5–7 years. Rushing is the enemy of quality; offers to complete the job in 2–3 days usually indicate that essential steps—such as component disassembly or final heat post-curing—are being skipped. While the consequences of a rushed job might not be visible immediately, after a few months the film will begin to peel along the edges and recessed areas. Saving a couple of days simply isn't worth the risk.Throughout the process, we provide photo documentation of all stages. If the paintwork requires preliminary correction beforehand, we add an extra 1–2 days, as the film highlights any surface defects—the paint must be impeccably smooth.

WHICH CARS DO WE MOST FREQUENTLY WRAP IN KRAKOW?

Every vehicle has its own unique technical features, such as different bumper geometry or weather seal materials, which is why we have accumulated extensive experience working with many brands. Regardless of the model, every car undergoes the same strict process: complete disassembly, decontamination, film application using knifeless tapes, and final heat post-curing. We do not simplify technology either for a Golf or for a Lamborghini, as the difference lies only in time and complexity, not in quality standards.
Order

BMW

This is one of the most frequent brands in our studio, particularly models like M3, M4, 5 Series, X5, and X6. Thanks to their fairly straightforward body geometry, these cars yield an excellent final result, especially when combining the main color with gloss-black accents, such as the roof or side mirrors.

Audi

Wrapping models like the A4, A5, A6, RS3, and RS6 in matte or satin film is a true classic. The sharp body lines look phenomenal, particularly in the popular combination of matte Nardo Grey with black accents.

Mercedes-Benz

A matte finish on models like the C63, E63, AMG GT, and GLE Coupe looks extraordinarily elegant, seamlessly complementing the factory designo Magno line. We also frequently work with Sprinter vans and other commercial transport to create corporate fleets.

Porsche

Wrapping a 911, Cayman, or Taycan requires exceptional precision due to complex body geometry, but the result in colors like Racing Green, Miami Blue, or Chalk Satin is always stunning. Working with these cars always involves complete disassembly.

Tesla

Since factory Tesla paint is quite thin and vulnerable, wrap film is the best defense against rock chips, which are a known issue for these vehicles. We work with all models, including Model 3 and Model Y.

COLOR CHANGE WITH MAXIMUM PROTECTION

The cost of this service in Krakow starts at 8,000 PLN for compact cars and can reach 12,000 PLN or more for large SUVs. The price is determined individually depending on the vehicle size, shape complexity, amount of disassembly required, as well as the chosen film type and final finish.Regarding colored Paint Protection Film (PPF), this is an innovative solution that combines color change with reliable chip protection. Standard vinyl has a thickness of 80–100 microns and serves a purely aesthetic purpose, whereas protective colored PPF is significantly stronger—ranging from 180–200 microns thick. It protects the body from scratches and UV rays, and features self-healing properties when heat is applied.A full wrap with this type of film starts at 15,000 PLN, but you get two services in one: a color change and complete paint protection. For owners of premium vehicles, this is an ideal solution: instead of waiting for a car in the desired color or paying for expensive repainting, you get a flawless look with the ability to revert to factory condition at any time. Although the price is higher than standard vinyl, this investment pays off through savings on chip and scratch repairs during heavy daily use.

Had a full wrap done on my BMW M4. The specialists approached the job very professionally: before starting, they consulted me, picked the ideal shade, and during the process, disassembled the bodywork just as promised. The result exceeded my expectations — it looks like it rolled right off the assembly line, but much more aggressive thanks to the matte film. Very satisfied!

Changed the color of my Tesla Model 3. The guys warned me upfront that the factory paint is thin, so film is the best protection. Executed flawlessly — no dust or bubbles, and the final heat post-curing guarantees the film will last a long time. Special respect for the atmosphere and coffee while I waited for the consultation!

Questions & Answers

How Much Does a Full Car Wrap Cost in Krakow?

The cost of the service in Krakow starts from PLN 8,000 for compact models (such as the Audi A3 or Volkswagen Golf) and can reach PLN 12,000 or more for large SUVs (including the BMW X5, Audi Q7, or Mercedes GLE). The final price is determined individually based on the dimensions of the car, the complexity of its shapes, the volume of disassembly work required, as well as the chosen film type (standard colors versus complex effects like "chameleon") and the type of finish (gloss, matte, or satin). We invite you for a vehicle inspection, after which we will prepare a detailed personalized quote for you free of charge right on the spot.

How Long Does the Wrapping Process Take?

A full car wrap takes between 5 and 10 working days. The timeframe depends on the complexity of the body geometry, the number of components to be disassembled, and the selected film. Wrapping individual elements—such as the roof, mirrors, or hood—usually takes 1–2 days. We do not compromise on quality, so every section requires precise application and final heat post-curing.

Can a Car with Scratches in the Paint Be Wrapped?

Technically it is possible, but the film will not hide deep scratches—in fact, it will accentuate them by conforming to the shape of the surface. Minor imperfections (such as holograms) will be invisible, but for deeper damage, we recommend carrying out paint polishing beforehand. We offer professional polishing services, details of which can be found on the corresponding page of our website.

Does the Film Damage the Factory Paintwork?

No, provided that the film is applied and removed by professionals. High-quality cast films (such as 3M, Avery Dennison, or Inozetek) feature a specialized adhesive layer that leaves no residue on the paintwork. On the contrary, the film protects the original paint from micro-damage, UV radiation, and harsh weather conditions, preserving its pristine look.

How Long Does the Color Change Effect Last?

A high-quality film lasts from 5 to 7 years. Its lifespan depends on proper care: garage storage, regular hand washing, and avoiding automatic car washes significantly extend this period. Matte and satin films may require slightly more attention than glossy ones. For better protection against UV rays and dirt, we recommend applying a ceramic coating over the film.

Can the Film Be Removed to Restore the Original Color?

Yes, this is one of the key advantages over repainting. The film can be safely removed at any time, leaving the original paintwork in perfect condition. The removal process usually takes 1–2 days, which is critically important for leased vehicles that need to be returned in their original condition.

Do I Need to Report the Color Change to the Ministry of Transport?

This question has a somewhat ambiguous legal nuance, but in practice, vinyl wrapping is considered a decorative procedure. Technically, if the change affects more than 50% of the bodywork, you should update the vehicle registration certificate; however, the majority of our clients do not do this. We are ready to assist you with document preparation if you require complete peace of mind.

What Is the Difference Between Cast and Calendered Film?

Cast film is manufactured by pouring liquid vinyl onto a backing sheet, making it thinner, more flexible, and better suited for stretching around complex body contours. It possesses a "thermal memory," allowing it to retain its shape permanently after heating. Calendered film is thicker and less flexible, which is why at HotPoint Studio we use exclusively cast films for full car color changes.
